Displaying video on a 1024×768 monitor
Sorry for the cross post, but I asked this in the DVDSP forum and realized it may be the wrong place.
I have been asked to show two SD 720i videos side by side (so it looks like a dual channel) on a single 1024×768 monitor. Placing the two video onto one video canvas is simple enough but I am a little confused about this resolution since it is not a default for HD or HDV. Should I place them on a HDV 1080i60 preset and let the DVD player shrink it down to 1024×768 or should I make a special template size at 1024×768? I can run this whole project off a computer so making a quicktime at 1024×768 is possible.

Let me answer you question by posing a question. If you were going to make any other SD DVD, or even if Sony, Disney, or Paramount were making a typical SD DVD, would they need to know the pixel count of the display it was going to be shown on??? The answer is no.
In this case, put your two pix tracks in side by side windows on your timeline, preferably 16×9 aspect ratio because it will display full screen widescreen, and make an typical anamorphic 16×9 DVD. It will display fullscreen on your widescreen projector no matter what the pixel coumnt, and letterboxed on all 4×3 displays.

OK I am understanding the screen idea but I am still a little confused about the resolution. Would placing two SD 720i images into a 1080i HD template and playing it back on a HD player to a result in a better image qaulity then shrinking down the two videos to fit into a 720i screen and playing it on a SD player.
If the screen resolution of the monitor doesn’t matter, then my fooling around with the two SD videos and putting them into a HD template will not make the image and better or worse? Is that correct?

If you can playback from an HD timeline from the computer for display on an HD monitor, then uprezing SD to HD will make a difference over a SD DVD, but uprezing SD and going to a HD DVD will not really be worth the effort in my opinion.
