Display dims when playing clip
Hello
I am new to Avid Xpress Pro. I have two tutorial books and am unable to find the answer to this problem.
When I play a clip in Composer, or in any other mode, the displayed image darkens until it is difficult to see. When not playing it is a normal bright exposure.
I run Windows XP Professional and the clips are on a fast external drive. I tried running on another faster machine with dual processors and a lot of RAM but, if anything, the images are darker when played on this computer.
Am I missing something obvious? This is not to do with basic colour correction of the clips (I have done that) but only happens when the sequence or clip starts playing. In other words, purely a display problem on my screen

What graphics card are you using and what driver for that card? When you see a luminance shift it’s usually a driver related issue–that is, you aren’t using the right one.

Thank you for your quick response.
I am using a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS, where the driver version is 9.1.4.7.
It was installed by the system provider but I have not configured it for Avid. Should I? If so, how?

If you’ve installed Avid (you have), go to your Avid folder. C:\Program Files\Avid\… You should see a folder called nVidia. The driver for your version of Avid is in there.
First, uninstall your current nVidia drivers. You can do this through Add/Remove programs. Restart. Go to your nVidia folder and run the installer. Restart. Check the readme for your Avid–you might have to tweak the overlay settings, depending on what version of Avid you’re running.
That’s where I’d start. The color difference has been a bit of an issue if you’re not using the right driver. Also, your card isn’t on the certified list so you might have to experiment a little bit with various drivers. Good luck, and let me know if it this works.

I had the same problem and I solved it reseting video overlay settings in Nvidia driver panel.
Simply right click on desktop go to Properties-Settings-Advanced-GeForce 7600GS-Video Overlay Settings and click Restore Defaults. That should solve the problem.
