I’m trying to displace a Drinking Glass with a logo popping out of it…. It looks nice but it’s applying the displace to the inside layer of the glass too…which creates a ghosting/halo effect… I tried applying the glass material, then selecting the polys around the displaced area and apply the displaced texture directly to it, which fixed my problem but then the surface area rose up a little around the selected polys… even though i was on intensity Centered, and used 50 percent gray… I kept sampling as a mix of CMYK so i applied a hue/sat modifier in PS and brought the Saturation all the way down to get a “true” 50 percent black only… it still rose the edge of the selected polys….

    any suggestions??

I’ve also tried doing ‘front side only’ on the displaced material and the base glass material on the back side and it still produces a halo… here is a picture

It should work. I would try converting the CMYK texture to RGB, as CMYK can be problematic.
