Disk Full Error. Please Help!
Thank you for taking the time to read my post, I will give you what specs I know:
My computer is a P4 2Ghz with 512mb RAM, I have 2 Hard drives (my C: drive and my D: drive where my movie is) plus one external harddrive. I know that I do NOT have the fast USB connection (I think its called USB 2.0) because it always says that I can transfer faster is I had a faster USB connection. Im running on Windows XP and have Premiere Pro 2.0.
Problem:
When I try to export my movie to my EXTERNAL hard drive (i do this becuase my D: drive has my footage and is almost full at 75/80 gigs and my external is new and had 80 gigs to spare) Premiere begins to render the video. After several hours (it is very slow) and around 14% completion of rendering, a yellow error pops up saying “ERROR COMPILING MOVIE. DISK FULL” and stops. While rendering I can see in the details window that I have 60+ gigs to spare on my external drive! I am confused why this is happening.
My raw footage,soundtrack,titles etc is about 75gigs – I assumed that this would slim down significantly when I exported it, but that doesnt seem to happen because that error pops up around 14% completion when rendering before the export.
I would love to just export it to DVD but Premiere says that the disk isnt large enough. Is there any way I can mess with the settings or quality so I can fit it on a DVD and simply burn it in Premiere Pro 2.0?
ABout the Disk Full error, could the fact that I am trying to use an external hard drive have somehting to do with it?? Sounds pretty lame to me. Perhaps my slow USB connection (my computer is a Sony Viao RX752 desktop) is screwing it up??
So thats about it for now. Thanks again for reading my post. Hopefully you have the answers. I will be watching this message board frequently for questions or answers because I have been working on this video for 3 months and I want to present it to someone before a funeral takes place, which is in a month.

Is your formatted as NTFS or FAT32? Also, how much space do you have on your C; drive?

This just happened to me. It was the external drive. Most of those come from the manufacturer formatted FAT32 for cross platform compatibility. It has a 4GB file size limit.
Even if your final file is smaller than 4GB, Premiere Pro 2 may try and temporarily cache an intermediate uncompressed file on that drive.
Also, 512MB of RAM is mighty thin for this sort of application.

ok, i changed my HD from FAT32 and now I have an exported 32 gig, 2.2hr .AVI file sitting on my external drive (which has about 20 gigs left).
WHat is my next step in converting this bad boy to a MPEG-2 file, or any file that will fit onto a DVD so i can burn it off?

Well, I would delete the avi if all you want is a dvd mpeg. Then I would use the Adobe Media Encoder to export your movie to NTSC DVD preset. That should result in a file the DVD Authoring tool you have can use.
If you have ppro, just export to DVD. (as long as your file fits the available space on the DVD media)
Otherwise, you can import your existing avi into Adobe Encore (or like product) and create your dvd from there.
