Disconnect video from audio

Are you sure you detached the audio, and didn’t just expand the audio component on the timeline? Select the video and if it selects the audio too then it’s not disconnected.

You can right click a clip and choose “Detach Audio” to truly detach it, but be aware that you cannot reattach it to the video and there are no sync markers.

Then the audio might now be a connected clip to the video, if the video is in the Primary Storyline.

If that’s the case, select the video clip and use the Delete key on the keyboard that’s above the arrow keys, not the Delete key next to the + key (and above the \ key). This will delete the video and replace it with a gap, leaving your audio in place (and now attached to the gap clip).

Just wondering why detach the audio instead of putting the b-roll above the clip on the primary storyline and merging that down to replace the video at that spot?

Or you could expand audio components and J or L cut . You can roll back the video portion in a J cut, leading with the audio and back fill with B-roll as required. Once you detach audio as noted by a previous post , the audio is detached and there is no click or command to re atttach audio back in its original sync postion to the video.
