disappearing renders
Our system:
FCP 6.0.4 on Mac OSX 10.5.4 w/ 2 x 2.8 ghz quad core intel xeon
Media storage is on a Terrablock
We’re using Blackmagic I/O’s (v6.7)
Quicktime 7.5We’re having a problem with renders randomly disappearing in parts of different sequences. We’ve done the so called right things to do like trash user settings and keep the project file size down, blah, blah, blah. This has been a waste of time for us and our clients when we stop editing to re-render.
We’ve talked to some other post places here in NY and are hearing that they’re having this issue as well. Anyone having this problem, have any ideas?

Hi Tom,
FC had a bug that when you duplicated a sequence or a Project, couldn’t keep track of the render files.
But this was long ago resolved. Really I haven’t heard again about this problem here in the COW.
Are you using DiskWarrior or TechTools?

I believe Raphael is suggesting that you run one of the other on your media array. Probably not a bad idea, although some manufacturers with proprietary configurations do suggest against it. You should check with you manufacturer to see what they think. I use Disk Warrior and it has never damaged anything.
I would also suggest that you fix permissions on all drives and raids using the Apple Disk Utility.

Take a brand new HD and make a clean install of Mac OX. What you get?
You get a system with the directories having a 30% of items out of place.
When you finish installing the few OX updates, all the QT updates, FCS2 etc
You may have a 50% of items out of order.
Repairing permissions is tot enough. You need to re-build the directories.
Running DW or TT in the System drive is critical.
Until recently I haven’t see the advantages of running one of those applications in the media drives.
This because I’ve been editing DV in FW HDs.
Now that I started to work with EX-1 footage in some e-Sata HD, I sow (using the AJA System Test) that the speed (read/write) can decrease more than a 20% when the directories are not clean.
Really I don’t understand how people can be working with a Mac without using any of those apps.
When people start to have problems with FC, the first thing they do is trashing Preffs.
For me this is one of the last resources. You have like a 99% more chances to have your problem arising from the System than from the very FC.
