Disable Opacity Control

Renato, as far as I’m aware there is no way to turn it off. If someone else knows I’m all ears!

Increasing the height of the track may help provide more area for the mouse pointer to grab and avoid hitting the opacity line, but that comes with other problems like taking up too much real estate on multi track projects.

On the other hand, my feeble memory thinks I once read a user came up with a work around, but I didn’t follow up on it and cannot find the link. Could it be my memory is playing tricks (very possible), or perhaps someone will have a solution!

Been using VP since 2002, never heard of one. BTW, it’s never ever been an issue for me.

I have a similar problem when trying to reduce clip volume and grabbing the audio envelope instead. But to try and help you with your problem I do not know a way. You could lock a clip to the timeline while would disable the opacity slider but then you cant move the clip till you unlock it. So my best work around would be working with the selection edit tool instead of the normal edit tool. You can still click on and move clips, it will disable the on clip buttons/sliders so if you want to go into pan crop or fx etc you would need to right click and select them.

In addition to Dimitrios’s suggestion about the selection edit tool, and my suggestion to increase the track height, you can also double left click on the timeline vertical slider (far right) which will collapse the tracks. Then the opacity bar is not visible and not an option. I often need to use this to gain display real estate on the timeline. Double left clicking the timeline vertical slider again will toggle back the track height to default settings.

If you use the right button on your mouse to drag a clip – then you will not have a problem with the Opacity !

Thank you for your help!
The best solution for me is increasing the height of the video track.
I need to see the audio track. Almost after every cut, I crossfade (only) the audio track and I can’t do it with the selection tool.
Dragging with right click shows me a menu (move here, copy here…) I use dragging about a thousand times a day so always click move here is worst than sometimes click on opacity control.
Maybe it’s an issue for me because I use it for work. I have to work fast. And that’s why I sometimes miss the click.
