  • DirectX Plugin Registration in Vista 64 & Vegas Pro 8.1?

    Posted by Tevya Washburn on April 30, 2009 at 5:12 pm

    I have the Virtos Noise Reduction Wizard filter package which is a DirectX plugin. I need to clean up some audio, but noticed I can’t see the Virtos Noise Wizard plugins in Vegas 8.1, after some research I installed DXMan which shows that its properly installed and registered. However, Vegas still doesn’t show it. So I tried dragging and dropping the file into the Vegas window, as some info I found suggested. It asked if I wanted to register the plugin, I clicked “yes”, then gave the error: “The DirectX Plug-In C:Program Files (x86)VirtosNoiseWizardnoisewizard.dll failed to register properly. (80004005h)”.

    Does anyone have any idea why this is? If the plugin is 32bit, but registers with my 64bit OS just fine, shouldn’t Vegas be able to see it? Please don’t just tell me to wait for version 9. I need to complete this project right away, so that maybe I can afford 9 when its available.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    This is because the plug-in is only 32-bit and you are trying to access from Vegas Pro 8.1 which is 64-bit.

    > If the plugin is 32bit, but registers with my 64bit OS just fine, shouldn’t Vegas be able to see it?

    It is registered as a 32-bit plug-in with your 64-bit OS because Vista 64 can also run 32-bit applications. It will only be seen by other 32-bit applications.

    I won’t because Version 9 is not the answer… Vegas Pro 8.0 is the answer. You must use the 32-bit version of Vegas Pro 8.0 to access 32-bit plug-ins and the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro 8.1 to work with 64-bit plug-ins. Vegas Pro 8.0 can open 8.1 projects just fine so it should work.

    I actually have a very similar problem;
    I am running Windows7 x64bit, but am running Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 (build 217), and am trying to install Magic Bullet Looks (which I had working on Windows 7 x64 (trial) using this version of Vegas, but now cannot get it to work for same error.

    The directX Plug-in … looksdx.dll failed to register properly. (80070005h)
