Thanks for all of your help guys – But here is what I am trying to do.

Setup a hv30 and record direct to Vegas 10 via firewire – I don’t want to record it on tape and then send it in – just want to capture directly into vegas. So – when I try this – I go to “Capture” and thanks to your previous help – I select “hdv” instead of “DV” – when I did select “dv” it said the “Canon Vixia hv30 was not on”… so if I select hdv I can get the video captured. However – in the hdv screen there is no option for where the audio comes from like there is in the dv screen – and I want the audio to come from the line in on the computer (from a mixer)….. So can I do this? Seems like it should be possible, and probably is, I am just not able to figure it out. Any help would be great! Thanks!

When you do a firewire capture, no matter if it’s DV or HDV, the audio is embedded in the capture stream and will show up once you’re finished capturing and play it or drop it on the Vegas timeline.
If the HV30 has analog audio input jacks, just plug your external audio into them and use it as a pass-through device.
