So my boss went and got a Avid Express Pro system on G4 laptop to use as digitizing station. He got it because we need our offline media to be 15:1s and that supports that resolution. We cut on Media Composer Version 12 off of OSX. The laptop however is digitizing to Lacie Firewire 800 drive. We plan to dig onto the drive then consolidate the media onto our shuttle drives.

I wanted to know will this set up work? I suspect it wont but I wanted to hear some proffesional thoughts.

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

I work a lot on an Express pro system. Unfortunately, having a firewire drive so much as connected to the machine in the same IDE bus will cause a DNA communications failure. I’m told that it is possible to have both if they are in different IDE’s, I’m not sure if that’s true. But I’m assuming if you’re working on a laptop that it probably won’t work. The adrenaline HD claims to have firewire drive support options but I haven’t had success with it. Maybe the express pro HD upgrade offers the same claim.
