    Hello Cows!!!!

Here i go with the post…

We have a client we wanna work with him. He is having a SONY DVW A500 P DIGIBETA deck onsite.

We wanna work with him, using his facilities to digitize, and to record the final master.

They are working with AVID MEDIA COMPOSER ADRENALINE, but we wanna work on FINAL CUT.

So, we make a deal to go there, capture, later work on the stuff, go back and make the digital cut.

We are thinking on buying an SD/ COMPONENT/ SDI card to digitize, and to make the digital cut.

Is it posible to use a KONA/DECKLINK with a MacBook laptop, to digitize all the videos on an external drive, then work on a G5, and then go back and make the digital cut? I know those are only pci cards, but maybe they have something similar.

Actually on AVID we were working 2:1 compressed, and I had no clue if this is posible to make it on FC. The meaning is that its not a problem to be NON COMPRESED.

So, it could work out to use otherwise the KONA (ls)/ DECKLINK with an external FW 800 disc? Or SDI wont run on a fw? Also ok to digitize trought components RGB.

We are a bit in a problem thinking wich could be the best solution without going to AVID.

    Worf flow:

Go to the house and digitize (using a KONA/DECKLINK)

The aja LD or LO is conected to the laptop trough firewire right?

Then i can also use it on the desktop g5, right?

if i get another channel to connect the FW 800, then it should work right?

    THANKS A LOT

Can i use the AJA card for other aplications such as After effects and Combustion previews?

I would like to use it, not only for this project….

The AJA its only running under MAC right?

Cause dekclink card can be used in both!!!!!!

    THANKS AGAIN!!!!

PD: how can i get another channel in the laptop? Trough PCMCIA CARD? I think on mac there is no pcmia place… :S

    Hi
You need a MacBook Pro with an Express Card slot to add SATA or FW800 to a laptop.
The AJA Io or Io LD only work with Final Cut Pro I think. It is the only way to get a laptop connected via SDI to a DigiBeta deck.

The Kona or Decklink PCI/PCIe cards only work with a G5/Mac Pro Tower, and no doubt are as easy to set-up as the Io.
I haven’t used them, but I think they can give preview output from other applications.

Wouldn’t it be easier to rent a Digibeta Deck and get an AJA card and work at your facility, using their tapes?

I think so, Greg, but the project will be once per week only 8 hours, for the next 3 months and there is not so much budget for that. Otherwise, they would prefer to make on their facilities but on the weekends…..

    :S

I think the Kona its a great solution!!!
