Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Digitize DV50?

  • Posted by Gabe Gatlin on December 13, 2006 at 11:02 pm

I have some archived footage on DV tapes that I am trying to digitize.
This was originally shot and captured straight to the DV Deck at DV50.

We usually shoot everything to DV25, and therefore digitize in that format.

I cannot configure FCP settings to allow me to digitize the footage (i.e. the video just displays black in the Log and Capture screen).

Hope this is not to dumb of a question for you folks.

    Thanks,
    Gabe Gatlin

    Currently digitizing to:
    Power Mac G5 2.5 GHz
    Mac OS 10.4.8
    FCP HD 5.1.2

FCP will only didg DV50 from a DV50 deck or cam. It must detect the DV50 device.

The deck is a DVCPro 50 deck, same one we recorded to in DV50.

make sure that your deck is properly configured to send DV 50 down the firewire. It may be set to DV 25 and then you’ll be chasing your tail trying to get the clip settings to match a signal that’s NOT there.

Hope this doesn’t sound stupid, but have you chosen DV50 as your capture method of choice?

Choose the easy setup. Press ctrl+Q. Choose the DV50 NTSC or appropriate setup. If you don’t see in capture window then, it’s probably a deck thing.

    Thanks,
    Yeah that would help.

And remember that dv50 is sometimes a bit troublesome.. choose correct codec BEFORE opening the log and capture window (changing between different dvcpro settings confuses ftp quite a lot)
