IMO you’ve got UPPER or LOWER Field First, reversed. This should be straightforward to correct.

Thanks for your fast guess, Graham, but this is not the case. The problem is elsewhere.

I think now the problem is in this mp4 file that I obtain with VLC converter. This file is four times smaller than original .ts file. It plays alright in VLC player, then when I get this file into Vegas 12, it is already shaky in preview.

Therefore I guess the problem is not render process itself, but compatibility with this mp4 file format.

I have a workaround solution already. I can work in Vegas 12 directly with this big .ts file. Then I get results. However I would like to work in Vegas 5 with this smaller mp4 file.

You problem is with interlacing. As Graham said, you have your upper and lower fields reversed. I’m guessing that this is happening when you convert the .TS file to .MP4. Why don’t you just drop the .TS file into Vegas? MP4 is a horrible format to convert it to anyway.

For some compatibility reason I’m unable to drop my .TS file to Vegas. Some .TS files I can, some that were recorded with older VLC on older computer, I can’t.

Why is that? Those .TS files look almost the same. The only difference is metadata and audio bitrate.

Anyway for those .TS I’m looking for an intermediary file like this mp4, which I’m now improving and getting better results with different VLC converters. I developed less shaky file, now have to do audio separately and have to use MPEG-4 instead of H-264 coding. I’ve gotten rid of this shakiness, but altogether still far from a perfect solution.

Mainly because in order to get so far I had to move VLC conversion and all editing to my Vegas 12 computer. I aim do all that on my old Vegas 5 pc, but here I’m stuck with this wrong type of mp4.

I would use something like AviDemux 2.5 to create a Motion-JPEG AVI file with PCM audio. Here are the settings:

Make sure you use AviDemux 2.5 and not 2.6. For some reason Vegas Pro cannot read the MJPEG files from 2.6.

Thanks John for AviDdemux. I’m a very happy user now. I can open, edit and render television shows, all problems solved.

My experience with AviDemux is good, however, a couple of observations just for the record
1. I notice one of the AVI files had audio 15 miliseconds late, which was easily corrected.
2. One AVI file had one extra black frame, no problem with that since human eye can’t notice that during playback.
3. Instead of soft transition I had to use clean cut in one of the movie scenes, otherwise there would appear “lightning and thunder” between this two AVI cuts.
4. Couldn’t open AVI in Vegas 5.

Still this are all minor issues, I’m very happy with conversion and very grateful for your help with my TS files.

You’re welcome. There is another program you can try called tsMuxeR. It will remux your TS files into a new stream that Vegas Pro should be able to open. There is no encoding! It’s just copying the video and audio stream into a new container. I’ve used that on .TS files from a Hauppauge HD PVR with good results.
