Digital Transfur from MD recorder (workflow)
I am recording on a portable MD player. I also have a domestic separate MD player. The separate has digital (S/PDIF I think) in and out. I am planing on getting a sound card with S/PDIF in to transfer to a PC. Will this work or am I missing something.
Also as it is a digital signal (i.e. simply a data interface) does it matter which sound card I get. There a a number of USB ones on eBay that are very cheap.

Many motherboards and sound cards have SPDIF (electrical = RCA, or optical = TOSLINK) OUT, but not IN.
Yes, it should be as simple as finding a device (plug-in board, or USB gadget, etc.) that has SPDIF/TOSLINK IN. I agree that since it is digital the “quality” of the sound interface will have no effect on the audio signal.

Of course, Richard is correct, but why go through all that? Doesn’t the USB connection allow you to pull the files off the disc?

There is no USB connection, its a Sony MZR700.
