Does anyone have a fast effective way to create the look of a digital drop out.
You know the little blocks that pop up just after that tape hit.

    Thanks

I’ve been looking for a while for an effect like this, too, and the only one I could find was by Buena Effects and it only comes in a bundle that is about $300 US, if I remember correctly. Worse than that, though, when I tried the demo (this was back in FCP 3, mind you) FCP kept quitting everytime I used the plugin.

It looked like exactly what you’re talking about, though.

Thank, I’ll look into that, but what I wound up doing was taking the clips I wanted to effect.
Laying them off to a digital tape (We use D-9).
Then bringing them back in while messing with the tracking.

This gave me exactly what I was looking for.

That’s funny. Sometimes we spend so much time and money on a sophisticated way to achieve a simple effect.

Although, I liked how (with the Buena effect) you could control all the variables, like repeated frames, how often the blocks occur, the block size and seed, etc. Maybe, come to think of it, it looks less like digital dropout and more like satellite interference. Cool effect, though. Just can’t justify the cost. I wasn’t really interested in the rest of the filters in the bundle.

Isn’t it funny how we forget about the “good ole days” of manual video production? You know, creating effects by hand and plain ole ingenuity.
