I am having a problem with digital artifacting on my Cinema Display: slight streaks on the desktop, really bad artifacting when viewing video in FCP, iDVD and DVD-player.

This has started after upgrading to FCS and Tiger. Downloaded and installed software update and after that tried the standalone combo-updater. Also installed the latest ATI-driver.

    What else can I try?

    Thanks alot,

    Wolf

Try reseating your video display card… sort of sounds like what I was seeing when mine went south a couple of weeks ago… Probably not a software problem I’m afraid.

Thanks for the reply, Jerry. Unplugged and replugged the DVI-connector and it actually got worse. I tried to wiggle the video card but it felt so rock solid.
I’ll take it out and reseat it and will report on the the result.

    Thanks again,

Got myself in a real mess now. Removed and reseated the video card, restarted the G5, tried to mount a disc image but no response. Tried to Repair Permissions, halfway through got the message Disk Utility lost connection to the disk manager or something of the sort. Had to quit- same thing when I tried again.
Then my mousepointer froze. Reinstalled the card twice but mouse remains frozen. Tried different USB-ports- nothing.
Want to run the Hardware Test but the disc-tray doesn’t respond. (Functions like the up and down-keys and Enter-key do respond.)

How am I going to get out of this mess? Please help.

    Thanks,

    Wolf

Well, Jerry, went full circle as far as uninstalling and reinstalling both hard- and software (combo update- again) and got my mouse and keyboard to work again and everything seems stable but… still that digital crap on my desktop and in my video.

Is this one for my Apple Extended Warranty..?
