  • Different audio sync with different users?

    Interesting problem today.
I have another editor here learning FCP and cutting his first feature. To enable him to set FCP up as he prefers it, I created a new user let him have at it. After a bit if editing and using clips with sync sound, it became apparent that his lip sync was way off. If the clips are dragged to the timeline, the sync is off by about 10 frames or so. If I scrub thru the clips and go to a slated frame and look at the point where the slate slaps and look at the sound waveform, the sync is right on. The sync is only off while the clips are playing. This happens whether in the viewer or canvas. If the clips are played in Quicktime viewer they play fine. The weird thing is if I open the project while logged on as the user with my settings, everything plays fine. No sync problem. As far as I can determine, both of our settings look the same. Obviously, this isn’t the case. This system plays out thru an Aja Io. The Io playback offset is set the same in both user settings. While playing back under the other settings, the sync is off both on the NTSC monitor and in the viewer and canvas. Under my settings, everything is still fine. We’re getting around the problem by simply editing while loggin in under my user and my settings.

Where else might there be a setting to affect the lipsync while in the playback mode?
    Thanks in advance.

    Tom,

Not sure about the two user deal, but I have seen sync drift come up in DV sequences from oughta nowhere from one day to the next. Solution for me was to trash prefs, although I have’nt seen this behavior since v 4.5.

    I found the problem.
The video output was set to the wrong setting in the A/V pulldown. And the audio output was set to “default” rather than Io putput. Set these to correct settings and all is well with playback
    Thanks,
    Tom
