  • Different Audio Sampling Rates: Need suggestion

I made a feature, and unfortunately had 3 different sound men. All recorded sound with different sampling rates. One at 96 kz, one at 48 kz, and the other one at 44.1 kz. Will this cause problems? Do I need to resample so that all are consistent? I’m trying to avoid it as I have about 1,500 audio clips. It would be a lot of work. Any other options?

Don’t try and avoid solving the problem before you start. FCP only performs properly when the file and sequence rates are set to 48khz. Editing with FCP trying to sample rate on the fly will drive you nuts. All the non 48khz files will need rendering and lots of people have reported sync problems with files at the wrong sample rate as well as pops, clicks and other nice glitches.

There are many software tools to batch convert files so you should be able to convert the 96 and 44.1 files that way. Start with Compressor which is part of the Final Cut Studio suite.
