difference between event and a stream (video)
hi ,
I might have missed this in manual . I have the collection of media in mediapool of the project.this media can be audio or video .When i place a video media (png image file ) on the time line it is a Video Event.
But where does this VideoStream come in the API and what does it signify ? How should this Videostream should be utilised in a script ? Maybe the general flow of a media to an event is like this (based on my guess)MediaPool contains Media
|
Event(if placed in the Time Line)but where would this Stream Come up in this hierarchy?

By PNG image file, are you referring to a sequential PNG/series of frames?
ALL media dropped on the Vegas timeline is referred to as an “event.” Audio or video. Most app’s call these events “clips” but Vegas is different in that it treats virtually all media formats the same, hence it is an event. Additionally, video events can be individually processed.
So, in the case of your PNGs (assuming it’s a sequential file), you’ll import the sequence, and it will show as a sequence on the timeline and in the Project Media window.
A stream is just another term for a video file. Nothing special.
It used to be we’d define the ability of hardware by saying “It can manage 4 streams of video with 1 effect on each” or something similar. Now devices are CPU-based, not often third-party hardware based.

The png’s is numbered sequentially img01,img02 etc.
but the pngs have different content.So i guess this is not a sequence of frames.so i’m adding them each image separately to the timeline.
so this individual image files in the same track at different positions are different events as well as separate videostreams ?thanks for the time.

Your pngs are indeed a sequence. First clue is the way they’re numbered. When they’re all combined, they create some sort of animated image, yes?
Try this:
File/Import/Open Sequence
Click on first file (001.png), hold SHIFT and select last file XXXX.png).
Vegas will see this as one event, and you’ll be able to treat the group of pngs as one event, apply FX, color correction, etc as one event. If there is an embedded alpha channel, Vegas should see that too.Douglas Spotted Eagle

The png images i have are not for creating an animation frame by frame.On the otherhand each png is a image of a line in a song. Since i’m doing subtitles for song , i create these images in the PS CS2.I’m able to import the image sequence i have as u mentioned. So it appears as a single event in the time.so i’m able to set the pixelaspect ratio as a whole for this sequence. But i think for my case that i have to place them as per the audio .
Anyway thanks for the suggestion.

In that event, then I’d either;
a-use a script to affect all png images to match aspect ratio.
Simply select all graphics and apply at one shot. Were it me doing it, I’d place all png images related to the subtitles on one separate track and do a “select events to end.”
b-use a script in Photoshop to modify all related images to the correct aspect ratio.More information does help answer the question efficiently.
