  • Difference between Effect menu and Multi-Pass menu in Render settings

Posted by David Cabestany on October 11, 2009 at 9:26 pm

    Hello all,

Can anyone please explain what difference does it make to add say, the ambient occlusion in the effect menu instead of the multi-pass menu, when tweaking the render settings?

What’s the difference between those two tabs?

    Thanks for your help.

adding it from the effects tab adds it to your overall render. If you don’t do this and just add it in multipass, you won’t have AO applied to your render.

adding it from the multipass tab separates out the AO as an individual render so you can use it for composting and have more control. That’s what multipass is for…separating out different things in your render for more control.

    Does that make sense??
