    If I take a tape load it into FCP and color grade, and then write back to another tape is there any way that someone can readily tell which tape is the original?

    That would depend on many factors, but more than likely the answer is no.

    If you’re working in a compressed format, you may increase the colour or luma banding effect you get from lower quality colour compression – especially if you try to stretch the luma at the top and bottom.

    If you over-grade it, it could show. Depends how good/bad the original footage and the grade are…
