    Hey everyone,

Just putting the feelers out there to see what kind of hardware you DIY types went with while building your PC Avid rig. I’m about to start buying components for my own, and, while i’m no stranger to building a box from scratch, I want to make sure every piece of hardware I buy lends itself to the goal of this particular machine: running Avid MC as efficiently and smoothly as possible.

Here’s what I’m thinking part-wise. Let me know what you think and if you have any specific suggestions for any of them:

    Mobo: no idea yet

    CPU: Intel Core i7 950

    RAM: 8 gigs DDR3

GRFX card: I know Avid recommends a Quatrro but seeing as I’ll be running software-only MC (no Mojo or Nitrus) AND because of the fact taht I’d love to kill some time gaming, I’m wondering if there’s a gaming card that will give me the performace I need in Avid MC.

HDDs: I’d love to go SSD for boot/system, then 2x 2TB and use a software raid to stripe across them Raid 0. Again, not sure of which specific brand of drives though

AUDIO: i have no idea. Literally none. Last soundcard I bought was a “Soundblaster Live!” a long lng time ago. I’ve been out of the loop for a little while.

CASE: im guessing it’l be determined bu which mbo / processor combo i go with

ANy help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated

Best thing to keep in mind. When Avid recommends particular hardware (especially video cards), they don’t recommend them, you MUST use the ones they tell you to use. You might not notice problems immediately, if you deviate from their recommendations, but they’ll most likely creep up.

I never “built” my systems from scratch, per se, but I would buy a barebones version of their recommended systems and then add the appropriate video card and storage myself. That’s probably a better way to do it, since if you ever need tech support and you’re not using a recommended system, you’ll limit their ability to help you.
