  • Did QT 7.1 break DVD Recognition?

Posted by Walter Biscardi on May 19, 2006 at 6:53 pm

    Hey all,

We have three macs here with 10.4.6 and QT 7.1 running and none of them can properly recognize an authored DVD anymore. We were trying to pull footage from our VideoTraxx libraries and the discs won’t mount. Now I just tried a regular DVD movie in there and I keep getting “Supported Disc Not Available” error in DVD Player.

    Anyone else running QT 7.1?

Sorry, Walter, but I can’t replicate your problem. I just tried it with both a commercial disk, & one that I authored, & both mount & play normally.

I’m working with a G5 Dual 2.5 (not dual core, the ‘old’ one from last spring), QT 7.1, OS 10.4.6 & 3.5 GB of RAM.

Same here. I tried both and they’re fine.

    Running a 2.7 G5 with QT7.1 and OS10.4.4 w/ 2.5G RAM.

My AE guy just asked me the same question, but he’s still on 7.0.4. DVDs won’t mount in his machine either. Maybe it’s 10.4.6? His machine is on that version of the OS.

That’s what I thought too, but all of our machines are on 10.4.6. Only three are on 7.1 and those are the ones that won’t play DVDs. Two G5 Dual 2.0’s and the PowerPC Mini.

[Arniepix] “What version of the DVD player are you using?”

It’s version 4.6.5 but the discs don’t even mount on the desktop on all three machines, so I’m not sure if it’s the Player that’s causing the issue. Something is up somewhere that the DVD’s themselves won’t even show up.

That’s the same exact problem we are having, Walter. this machine is a dual 2.5 PCI-X. Do you have autoduck on all of those machines?

Nope, the duck is only on one machine, but it is on one of the machines having a problem. Don’t think that’s it though.

Have you tried an external FireWire DVD burner player?
