In Andrew Kramer’s last tutorial he cheats the DOF blurring on the text by hitting the draft3d button– I did this and it looked great while I was building my project, but when I rendered it the blur was back on the text — is there something I need to do before rendering or does this not really work? Thanks in advance!!!

For those of us who aren’t familiar with the tutorial: what exactly are you trying to do?

Enabling Draft 3D will disable depth of field blurring, as well as any lights/shadows. If you want to render it this way you can make those changes in the Render Settings in the Render Queue or you can disable your lights and turn your Camera’s depth of field off prior to render.

    Or I didn’t understand the problem…

I have the same problem with text blur and POF, no one know how to get around this?

I figured it out, at least one way, the only way in fact I could find.

You hide the text layer by switching off the eye in the timeline and render out the particles at full uncompressed setting (or QT amimation) or save ram preview and import into project.

Then turn the text back on, turn DOF off and hide the particle so you now only have a black BG with non blurred/no depth of field on the white text. Render that out and import.

Make new comp with imported particle, add the imported text.

    Voila
