Did I improperly import my C300 footage? (again)
Ok yall, I’m in a bit of a pickle.
So here’s what I’ve done. I’ve (mistakenly!) imported my project’s C300 footage by going into the media browser, highlighting “File Directory” (in the place of “Canon XF”) and imported all the individual MXF files. (Yikes!) As many of you know, this is a problem because any “spanned” clips (bigger than 2.05 gb) are cut into pieces that now show up in my project as many copies of the same clip. (Each with the wrong timecode, it’s very confusing).
However!
I’ve since realized my error, and begun reimporting the footage using the “Canon XF” setting (in Premiere) instead of “File Directory” setting and I’ve deleted the old files. So now the premiere file contains whole, beautiful clips, the time code is correct, and everything is peachy.
However!
Because I didn’t delete the massive “Premiere Media Cache” (which I have an a separate external drive, as I understand this is the proper method to edit big premiere projects), and my files “re-imported” but didn’t “re-conform,” I’m no worried that these files were still incorrectly imported somehow and will have problems down the line. As of right now they are working beautifully and I’d really really really prefer not to delete the entire media cache and reimport everything as I have a HUGE project with several different kind of cameras and it will be a huge headache to reimport everything from scratch.
Am I good to go by just deleting the files in Premiere and re-importing with the proper method? Should I start from scratch? Is there something else I’m missing?
Thanks everybody!
