Detail “Pumping”
I’m trying to re-compress a 1080p60 clip from a camcorder at different target bit rates using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11. The results using the Sony AVC codec aren’t very good. I can see a lot of almost rythmic “pumping” of the detail that just gets worse the more compression is applied. Checking the re-compressed clips with Bitrate Viewer reveals that the fluctuations in instanteous bit rate are both faster and larger than in the original clip. How can I avoid this? I believe specifying maximum and minimum bit rates would help (to limit the size of the swings) but I can only specify what appears to be an average (and not a very accurate one at that).
Are there parameters in Vegas that I’m not aware of? Should I be using a different codec with Vegas? Should I be using a different program altogether?
