Was wondering if anyone know a way around this

I’ve got a comp using Trapcode’s Particular drawing 3d lines on extremely fast through a 3D environment. The only way to get it smooth looking is to increase the comps frame rate to it’s max of 99. When I RAM preview I set the rate of 100 and skip every 4 to get back to PAL 25fps. Now it’s come to final render there seems to be no way of setting the same in the OUTPUT settings, even with use current settings.

Setting 25fps also doesn’t work as the line then has gaps in it as if Trapcode hasn’t calculated the other frames

I can’t precomp either as there are too many tracked matt other layers.

Is there anyone around this other than rendering out 99fps?

    HELP!

    Cheers

I’m 99% sure that Particular has a subframe sampling option somewhere, and that’s what you need. As far as i remember it only applies to custom particles, but even if you’re using build it particles (like glowing sphere) you can simply recreate that particle on your own.

Let me know if it helps. I just can’t check it right now.
    Thanks

My comp is base on Andrew Kramer’s original light streaks comp. He explains in it that increasing the comp frame rate is the only way around it. He however creates a precomp that retains the original frame settings.

Is the great KRAMER wrong?? The world will crumble!

You can’t just pre-compose into a 25fps comp because of the particle interpolation problem…

    Option 01 (pretty good):
Save your Ram Preview and it will only save rendered frames and you can then change the frame rate to 25 on re-import.

You may want to change your comp to 75fps so you can easily change the new frame rate to 25 without any math problems.

    Option 02 (better):

Change your comp frame rate to 75 which is easily divisible by 25. Then nest your comp into another blank comp at the original 75fps, then use the TimeWarp Filter on the comp, change to “Whole Frames” and set the speed to 300. Now your comp is still 75fps but your animation is sped up 300 percent and will play back correctly at 25fps. Change the render settings to use 25fps instead of the comps 75.

THanks Andrew. That’s a great idea. Will give that a go.

    Much appreciated!

Actually I’m at the minimum of smoothing out these lines out at 99 fps. Any ideas on how I could get it up to 100 then divide by 4 instead?

    bugger!

Thanks anyway…and a big thanks for all the tutes Andrew. You do a great job at keeping the inspiration up.

You shouldn’t have the problem if you have the latest version of Particular and are in CS3. At least I don’t. If you’re in 7 try going to the advanced tab in your comp settings and select preserve frame rate when nested. This should solve the problem and you should be able to use 99fps in your particle pre-comp

i’m having a really big problem getting the motion path of my particles smooth, even at 99fps .. the “subframe sampling” option in Particular only seems to be an option for animated/multiframe custom particles .. Trapcode’s help file on particular says:

“If the particle is a still, as in the example above, the Particle>Custom>Time Sampling mode should always be “Current Time” (the default)”

.. and when the time sampling mode is set to “current time”, the subframe sampling box becomes unavailable .. no matter what options i select it seems that Particular simply connects between keyframes with a straight line, no subframe sampling whatsoever (even when it is checked there is no change) .. is this “subframe sampling” between keyframes on the motion path a myth or what?!

.. very frustrating, i just want smooth lines and it seems very difficult to achieve
