Desperate matte question
So I have a project that is already built with preexisting mattes that I can use as a reference, yet cant figure out how to re-create the effect. The track shows a Matte effect, when I step inside there are 2 tracks, one of them is locked.
I have alpha channels. Im so confused as to what to do

Its a lower 3rds with alpha.
In Final Cut it composites perfectly with a click, I just drag it over and superimpose it. So frustratingWell I cant figure how they got the nice gradient in the previoud mattes used in the open project. When I go into effects editor, its just a matte key effect with no settings. When I drag the matte key effect over to a bin from the previous matte keys which have the gradient, I do not see anything on my new mattes when I apply the effect. Not sure if that is because it was from another Avid.
Im running off an Avid Nitrus, I got these files from a project from another Avid. I have tried a Luma Matte, because the background is black, it has an alpha, and have played with the gain, softness and other settings. I can get it close to the other but not the same.

How are you creating the lower thirds in the first place? When I create lower thirds in Photoshop, I always output to a .png, sized for whatever format I’m working in. Make sure you MERGE your layers in photoshop (if you flatten, you’ll lose your alpha), or at least RASTERIZE whatever layers have effects on them, before you save your .png. Check your options on import to the Avid, making sure you invert your alpha, use 601, and maintain pixel A/R. I never use the matte key effects.
