I have a series of clips in a secondary storyline and I need to go through and time them to another track. I’m using the keyboard shortcut opt+] to trim them back to meet my desired timing, but it requires me to select the clip everytime. Is there a way to auto designate that “track” as the location I want the trimming to happen. If I don’t select that clip, it will trim my primary storyline.

Activate Clip Skimming then it should work. Just hover over your clip with the mouse/trackpad.
You also can map Trim Start and Trim End to ‘g’ and ‘h’ without modifier, superfast…
