Activity Forums Letters to the COW Team Demo Reels Player: Gamma Shift?

  • Demo Reels Player: Gamma Shift?

    Dear all,
I have posted this in the Reels Forum but haven’t get any answer.
I think there is a big Gamma Shift in the Video Player.
I don’t know why but I guess that only affect QT movies.
Those are some screen shoots of the clip I uploaded (left) and the clip in the web video player (right):

The clips should look the same. It have been no re-compression.
The shoots are took putting the clip side by side in my MBP screen that is set to gamma 2.2.
If in my Mac it looks washed, in a PC must look washed too.
The only reason I can think about is that the Flash Player is lowering the gamma of the QT movie.
This to avoid the old issue of the QT movies looking too dark in PCs.
The Player do not expect that this QT movie have been adjusted to be watch in a PC.
I made a copy of the clip with higher gamma (1.2). I think this should correct that difference. I would like to upload to see if it’s works.
is possible to replace the clip?
    Thanks,
    rafael

To switch out your movie or demo reel:

    1) Go to your existing movie. Make sure you are logged in. Click the delete button to delete the movie.

    2) Upload a new demo reel by going to https://shorts.creativecow.net/upload

I wasn’t aware of that Gamma Shift in the video player. That’s a bummer. I’ll have to look into how to fix that.

    Appreciate the feedback.

Is it possible to add a “Replace video with a different version” button, Abraham?

There are some people that have lost all their votes and comments, etc., by not being able to replace the video with a new version.

I think it would be a great feature.

    Thank you,

    David my friend,
    Sorry for no reporting back.
I tried a new export with Compressor.
I thought that a 1.2 Gamma would be OK but I saw in the Compressor Preview that would get too dark.
I tried with Gamma 1.1 in Compressor. That’s the one that is uploaded now, but I think still is a bit darker than the original.
I will try 1.05 and I will upload it as soon as I get a decent Internet connexion.
Now I have access to PCs and with connexions that would take me few hours to upload the file.
Give me just few more days.
    Cheers,
    rafael
