    Hi,

fishing around for opinions on the DELL ULTRASHARP 2408WFP for use as an HD edit display. I’d be hooking it to the HDMI output (or maybe component?) of a multibridge pro. This is a toe in the water as most of my work is SD and I have sony BVM for that and though this HD project is going elsewhere for a grade I’d like to have an accurate representation of the pix – I’m planning to edit in prores or dvcpro HD.

    Thanks.

PS Walter B, I noticed in another post that you favoured DVCPRO HD over PRORES, could you elaborate please? My project’s being shot HDCAM (F900) 1080 25P for Nat Geo and BBC and I hope to digitize once, then pass the final edit project and media over to another editor in a full online suite for finishing.

Do a search on this forum for the monitor. Someone else did a thread about this I think last week.

I just said I see no real difference between the two that would make me give up the DVCPro HD workflow that we’ve been using for three years now. We’re approaching 100 HD Broadcast Masters delivered now and each one of them has been done using the DVCPro HD workflow. The networks have all commended us on the outstanding quality coming out of our shop.

When putting up a shot side by side, captured DVCPro HD or ProRes, I don’t see a difference either before or after it’s been filtered. If I don’t see a difference, then I’m not changing my workflow at this time.

I am currently color grading a 13 part PBS series that was posted in 1080i ProRes HQ that was shot on HDCAM originally and it looks good. We’re not doing the edit here, just color grade so I have no way of comparing the shots side by side in DVCPro HD vs. ProRes.
