Dell 24″ users: Are you experiencing the 60Hz FCP frame dropping?
Hi all:
I am very close to buying a Dell 24″ monitor for use with my new dual core 2.3Ghz G5 but now I have heard that even Apple is saying that there is a playback issue with G5s and FCP. Apple is recommending that the monitor is adjusted to 75 or 85Hz scanning rate, not 60Hz. The quote below is verbatim from the Barefeats website:
January 6th, 2006 — FCP PLAYBACK PROBLEM REVEALED
Readers have reported to me a problem with skipped frames during playback with Final Cut Pro on the Dell LCD display. According to an article on Apple’s site, monitors set to 60Hz refresh rate exhibit this problem. Their solution is to set the display at 75Hz or 85Hz. To my knowledge, the Dell FPW2405 (and FPW2005) can only be set to 60Hz when used on a Power Mac. Therefore, this is a major “gotcha” if you are running FCP on your Power Mac with a Dell LCD attached. Are any of you experiencing this? I cannot see how it would matter if you were using the Dell as an HD monitor using DVI but if you do want to use the Dell as a G5 monitor, could be an issue.
Best,
Dan
