Dell 24″ LCD Monitor Question
Posted by Cory Mckechnie on January 11, 2008 at 12:08 amI’m purchasing one of the shiny new Mac Pro’s want pair it with a couple LCD monitors. We use the 20″ Cinema displays at work, but i saw the 24″ Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC 24” (https://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=320-5647) and think for the same price as two 20″ Cinema Displays, this might be a better option.
Any thoughts on the Dell monitor versus others in the price/quality range? As you can see, I’ll save $200 on a pair of displays if I order tomorrow, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

January 11, 2008 at 12:31 amMY quick response would be that Dell Ultrasharps are solid monitors. I’ve been using them for years at home, while I have ACD’s at work. Dell’s to me are on the same level as cinema displays and I really notice no difference between the two as far as my work goes. At home I have 2 Dell 20″ displays and a 23″ cinema display to monitor from the Matrox MXO… and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a Dell Ultrasharp.

January 11, 2008 at 1:14 amI’m about to order one of these as well to replace a CRT in an edit room.
Why the heck is Dell taking 2 weeks before they can deliver them?

January 11, 2008 at 1:17 amHigh demand. I have the first incarnation, the 2405s and I love them. SWEAR by them. Better computer monitors than the Apple 23″. The fact that they are bigger and cheaper than the Apple 20″ means there is a good deal to be had.

I have 2 of these monitors and I love them. I’ve had them for over a year now.
I have my G5 quad connected to the DVI inputs and a PC connected to the RGB inputs. I also have the composite (super) output of my Beta deck connected to the composite input of one of the monitors for confidence reasons during the output to tape.
The price on these monitors was great over a year ago so I’m sure you are getting a good deal.
I’m sure all the monitor manufactures are gearing up to start including display ports or HDMI on their monitors so the prices on the existing inventory is probably really good. Unless you are holding out for a monitor with a display port then I would say go for it …Lou …

We run the Dell 2407’s in our edit suites and they are pretty much equal to the Apple’s. We only use them for computer displays and not for external video display.
I would definitely recommend them to save some money over the apple displays.
