  • Deleting clips and all associated media files that FCPX creates?

Posted by Michael Angelo on August 26, 2013 at 10:22 pm

    Hey there,

So I’ve had to delete and re-import a good deal of clips in FCPX… When deleting clips I use the “move to trash” command but have noticed it doesn’t throw away the proxy media and most likely other Render Files etc… This is resulting in a lot of unnecessary media…

What’s the best way to deleting clips and ALL associated media that FCPX puts in the Final Cut Events folder?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Cheers

Render files are deleted from the File > Delete Event Render Files menu. If there’s still some left over, you can delete the files out of the “Render Files” folder located in the Event Folder. Most of these files are Thumbnails and Peaks Data (waveforms, etc) which will just get regenerated once you reimport. The bigger render files are located in the Project Browser which can be deleted by selecting a Project in the Project Browser and choosing File > Delete Project render files. You can map “Delete Event/Project Render files” to a keystroke if you want to streamline this process. It will only delete from the selected Project or Event when you hit the keystroke.

Proxy Media should delete when you “Move to Trash” selected clips from the Event Browser (command-delete).
