Deleted half of clips in timeline by accident
Ok, this may sound complicated but… Let’s try anyway? I just lost 3 hours of work! Pissed!
I edited about 3 hrs of clips in timeline (mark in out) forgot to use right tool for not having gaps between clips. Did a little research on Google how to remove all gaps and viola! Found it!
In final cut, here is how you close all gaps:
Take the last clip in your sequence. Move it to a new video layer above all the others. Make sure its the only one on the video layer.
Click on the blank space before that clip so its highlighted.
Hold down the delete key (the one above the return key, not under the “in” key to the right)
This will start ripple deleting all the spaces….It worked, BUT… In a middle of it I did something else and started deleting clips instead of gaps. By default I had only 20 undo. Problem is I deleted at least 100 clips. Is there any way to undelete it? Or restore ( no, I didn’t have autosave turned on) or am I screwed?

Is it too late to ask if you quit FCP without saving after you discovered your mistake? That would nullify all changes to your project since the last save. Do you have Time Machine? Is it active?

Check the autosave vault for earlier versions of your project. Now if you have that turned off….that is not good.

Why would anyone turn autosave off?
Time Machine?

Just like I thought… I have no luck..ever!
Everything is turned off. Autosave, time machine… I was moving some files around, transferring from PC and sure enough only one time I think what can happen, I turn it off, so Mac runs faster! Figures. I guess I have nothing left but edit clips again..
Thanks for trying.Oh, and yes, FCP is still open, I didn’t do any changes since I found out about accident.

Well maybee your 2nd edit is better!!
And turn ON autosave. 10 minutes or so.
