  • Delay in pressing play and start of material on TL

    Hi,

I have following problems: With certain Time Lines, I have following issue: the time in between pressing space bar/Play and the footage actually playing is up to 2 seconds. Put that only applies to certain Projects and even then it seems to be different inside the project itself. The issue is not connected to SD/HD nor if the file was rendered or not.
    No idea why this happens.

    Any thoughts?

    Greetings,

Let me guess: footage is not optimized?

All optimised – original footage comes from SONY A7s, FS700 & Canon C100.

Turn off any unused (or empty) audio channels on your footage.

I’ve had this happen from time to time too. In fact it’s just started up again in the last week or so.

The only thing I’ve found that seems to fix it, at least for a while is a clean install of my machine – which makes me think it’s an FCPX/OSX issue rather than anything to do with the media or libraries.

Are you using anything Blackmagic Design for monitoring? I’ve also wondered if it has something to do with the driver for my Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Monitor. Haven’t had a spare minute to investigate thougH.

try turning AV-display off, if you have a BM card and see what happens.
usually this helps on our 2013 mac pro with a decklink
on an older 2008 Mac Pro with an aja card the same timeline plays just fine
    it´s the deck links driver – my2cents

That was my first thought as well, since I use BM. but even if I have AV output set to off, no monitoring, it still does it.
Besides if it’s the Driver, it wouldn’t make sense that with some clips on the TL I get a delay and with others not.

Have you tried hitting ctrl-⌘-1 and closing any open browsers and the inspector?

    Yes, also that.

Then I personally would surmise that it’s not in fact an FCP issue and a fresh install of the OS is your best if not only bet, before you go on a week long witch-hunt, and nip matters in the bud. Little sense in running circles around the problem. 😉
