Deflicker/Auto Iris Correction Plug-in
I’m currently working with somones DV footage that was shot with the iris/exposure in auto mode. This results in shifts with the overall picture brightness when anyone moves within the shot. I tried to key frame the levels to fix this, but it was very time consuming and didn’t work too well.
My question is, does anyone know of a good FCP plug-in that can lock down image brightness, and any compensate for any shifts that may occur during the clip?
Genarts and Foundry plug-ins have a de-flicker filter that is supposed to handle this. I’ve tried the Genarts demo, with so-so results (and both of those plug-in packages have a steep price tag).
I hear VirtualDub has a de-flicker plug-in that is amazing, but since I’m a Mac FCP guy… no dice.
Needless to say, do we have any affordable plug-in options as FCP guys for this sort of problem?
Any help would be immensely be appreciated. Please, no “they should have shot it right to begin with” comments, I’ve been getting those all day!

The deflicker filter demos you tried are probably designed for the flicker cased by fluorescent lights, which is very regular. What you’re trying to correct isn’t really flicker, per say, it’s bad camera work. I doubt that you’ll find any kind of automated solution for this. Your best bet is to simply either keyframe the exposure corrections using the 3-Way Color Corrector or similar tools.
