default transitions
I am new to forums so hope I add this correctly. I have adobe premiere pro 1.5.1 and know about page down ctrl d to add default transitions between my stills. My problem is that after a while, all of a sudden, it doesn’t work anymore. I can’t figure out what I did to cause it and what to do to fix it. I have a 1000 still image project and ctrl d quit working after about 100. Needless to say I am not looking forward to doing this individually. Automate to sequence doesn’t give me as many frames as I would like. Any help would be appreciated.

I don’t know why it would stop working. Perhaps a reboot would help. In the meantime, you could try changing your preferences so that you get more than 5 seconds per still. This only works when you import. So you could make the change, reimport, then use Automate to Sequence.

Thank you for your thoughts. I did find out if I made a new sequence and copied and pasted the timeline to the new sequence it worked again. I had tried rebooting, opening up previous saves, rechecking my default transition, and nothing else seemed to worked. I wish I could figure out why it quits working so I could prevent it in the future as I mostly do photo montages.
I have my settings for importing the photos the way I want,(400 duration) but when I automate to sequence they are shorter (300 duration) and I can’t figure out how to rechange the setting to make it longer.
I have been looking at your site for a couple of years and have learned alot from you… Thanks for that too. -
Are you sure it isn’t just that the overlap for the transition is causing the shorter duration?
Perhaps you should increase your duration by the amount of the overlap – remember to do both sides.

I double checked and when I drag a folder of photos to the timeline the duration is 4:05 and stays the same when I manually add the transitions. When I automate to sequence the duration is 3:10. My preferences are set for default transistions to 25 frames and my still photos 125 frames. I went in and changed the stills to 175 and tried again and there was no change. Is there someplace else to change the duration of stills other than preferences? Is this covered in your training videos. I have been thinking of ordering them.

Let’s see if I get the math right.
4:05 is 49 pictures if each picture is 5 seconds long and you get 12 pictures per minute. Adding the default transition just reuses frames. Using Automate to Sequence creates heads and tails. So the total duration is shorter.
The only time the duration changes – like changing from 125 to 175, is when you import the images. So, delete them and start over. Make sure you are set for 175 and see if that does the trick for you.
And no, I don’t remember doing anything more than a light discussion of Automate to Sequence in the tutorials. Which is why I hang out in forums to support people.
