First experience installing a DeckLink HD Extreme 3D card (I’m more of a Kona guy) into a MacPro running Snow Leopard and FCP 7.03.

I have the Decklink connected to a UVW-1800 via CAV. I have a sync generator feeding black to both the Decklink and the UVW. The preference/control panel for the Decklink indicates that it getting the reference into it. The problem is the UVW output is still showing vertical displacement of the video. It will happen whether the deck is set to sync in or video in for a reference. It seems like the Decklink is locking incorrectly to the card.

put black into BOTH the Video input and REf Video input (I know that you are not using the composite video input of the UVW-1800, but you have to do it anyway).

Make sure both 75 ohm terminator switches are ON, and make sure you are using a black generator, like a Blackmagic Sync Generator, AJA GEN10, or Horita BSG-50. A Horita BG-50 is NOT a black generator.

    Thanks Bob!
No, I do not have a signal going to the video in on the deck right now. I’ll give it a try. And yes, I am using an actual Grass Valley SCB200N sync generator for the reference signals. Older but still in good shape.
    Thanks again.

    Well…
I’m running the same Black signal to the reference in on the UVW, the Video in on the UVW and the reference in on the DeckLink card and the sync issue on the UVW is still there. The decklink output is going into the UVW thru the CAV cables. I tried setting the UVW to both Video and External Sync in the menu-no difference. It still locks incorrectly. All of the cables are good. The DeckLink menu is indicating that it is seeing the reference input. The devices seem to be locking to the reference since the vertical displacement is pretty much constant and isn’t changing over time. I have a similar setup on another edit station using a PVW-2800 series Betacam that has a separate reference output in the back going to the reference in on the DeckLink card and it’s working without issue.
    Did I miss something?

Found the problem and it was due to operator error…sort of.
This was a standard definition project in FCP. The output in FCP was set to 720P 59.94 and the Decklink preferences were set to realtime downconvert and center cut. This combination doesn’t work well with an SD timeline. I reset FCP to output a 720×486 signal, turned off the realtime down convert and the centercut option the video locked up properly.
Still need to explore why the sync isn’t locked when doing realtime down convert from an HD timeline. That’s an issue for later.
