Hi all. I’m using a Decklink Studio 2 card to feed my broadcast monitor from FCP7 via SDI. I’m working in a ProRes 1080p/29.97 timeline.

Here’s the problem: there is no 1080p/29.97 playback option listed in the Video Playback section of FCP’s A/V Settings. I’ve got a “Blackmagic HD 1080p 23.976” option, a “Blackmagic HD 1080p 23.976 -> 59.94” option, a “Blackmagic HD 1080i 59.94” option. No 1080p 29.97 option. There is no 1080p 29.97 Easy Setup either.

I went through the manual and the forums, but can’t seem to find an answer as to why this is missing.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

EDIT: One more thing I should add is that in the Blackmagic prefs pane in System Prefs, the default Video Standard is set to “HD 1080p 29.97”, and yet that option doesn’t appear as a playback option.

    Hi Jason,

I’m afraid it’s not possible to output 1080p29.97 from Final Cut Pro 7. FCP7 uses generic Quicktime support to output, which predates this format being added to our cards. More recent applications whose support was developed using our API, such as Premiere Pro CS6, Media Composer 6 or FCPX are able to access the 1080p25/29.97/30 output settings.

The best way to output from FCP7 in this case is to use the 1080i59.94 output setting with a progressive timeline. I understand that this is not perfect, but it is the only workaround I am aware of.
