  • Decklink SP good for HDV downconvert monitoring?

I’m editing a project on FCP that was shot on HDV. I digitized everything via firewire and plan on editing natively in HDV. I’m looking for a solution to be able to monitor the video on my standard def Sony broadcast monitor (non-SDI) as I edit. On the Black Magic website it says that all of their Decklink cards (SD and HD) will downconvert HDV. I just wondered if anyone has used the Decklink SP for this purpose. I’m wondering if it is seamless or will playback bog down with the downconversion? I am running Final Cut 5 on a dual 2.0 GHz G5 with 2.5 Gigs of RAM.

Most of my projects are DV (or HDV) so I don’t really need a capture card for any other reason at this time. But being able to monitor on an external monitor is very important. I just want to know if this will work without a hitch making it worth the $600 to be able to monitor externally while editing.

    Any thoughts appreciated,
    Keith
