We are putting together a new PC (hp xw8200) as an After Effects/3ds max/combustion/Encore DVD station. I’m thinking about adding the Decklink SP for video preview on the NTSC monitor. While most projects are SD, some are HD and all editing is done on the Avid. My question is, what kind of preview will I get on the NTSC monitor through the Decklink SP for HD projects? Will I be able to preview a sequence or just see still frames when it is stopped?

Also, will it output the preview audio from After Effects? I’m currently using a firewire converter. AE doesn’t seem to send the audio over the firewire. There is a big delay between the NTSC preview and audio. Will Decklink overcome this?

    Thanks,
    Adam

You can get an SD preview out of the Decklink Extreme. So your HD comps will be software-downconverted – but it looks pretty good.

You won’t get audio out of the Decklink during RAM preview, since AE is looking for a Windows Audio Device, which unfortunately isn’t supported by the BMD drivers.

Yes, thats true and not good.

    Question to Decklink:

Will it be possible in the near future to playout audio out from After Effects over Decklink cards or is it a unsolvable limitation from After Effects ?
