  • Decklink HD Extreme 2 and Vista 64 Cannot Capture Audio

    Hardware:
    1. Motherboard: Tyan S2892
    2. CPU: 2x AMD Opteron 275
    3. 8GB ECC REG PC3200
    4. eVGA 9800GT

    Software Installation Order:
    1. Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
    2. Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 3.2
    3. Decklink 6.7.2 x64

I went to the Decklink control panel to switch the input to “NTSC Y with AES audio”.

I started Premiere Pro CS3 3.2 and I received an error about the audio (not verbatim): “No compatible audio capture device could be found.” I checked the Audio/Audio Hardware settings and confirmed that the Decklink Audio was being used, but not sound is captured.

I was able to capture video without problems.

  • The Tyan mainboard you are using needs an audio card with Vista Ultimate 64 drivers. What are you using?

I’m using a Turtle Beach Riviera 5.1 sound card–it works with Vista x64.

  • CS3 Needs ASIO driver support. Not sure if Riviera supports it. Just a thought. Can you play audio from within CS3 Timeline? EX bars and tone
    using a decklink default settngs.

If I switch the audio to the Turtle Beach sound card or to the Declink Audio, I can hear audio from the timeline (with a wma file).

I am not sure what this means: “EX bars and tone using a decklink default settngs.”

  • Hmmm I’m not sure, but my guess from what you are describing indicates that there is no ASIO Driver being detected. It is normally installed with the sound card. I do not beleive Decklink or Adobe installs it.

You could try the driver at http://www.asioforall.com

The EX was just for example bars and tone generated by Adobe using decklink hardware.

After reading the manual again, it explicitly states: “DeckLink features support for ASIO audio output drivers. This allows Premiere Pro to use DeckLink as an ASIO audio output device.” However, it does not mention ASIO audio input, so my question is then:

So my question is: what are audio pins 14 and 15 from the consumer breakout cable for? How do I use them? It seems a bit silly to have those pins, but no way to use them in Premiere…

The consumer breakout cable is the bottom picture:

Those would be for Analog audio, while capturing analog video.

However you will never be able to capture audio from them if Premiere does not see a valid audio capture device. Thats what you need to work on. I just have a sneaky feeling that you have issues with the TB sound card not playing right with BM Drivers. Maybe call BM support.

I wanted to post the solution to the problem–you were right! I picked up an Edirol UA-1EX and installed it. I changed the Control Panel Decklink’s input to Analog XLR, selected the Edirol UA-1EX as the input device, enabled the Audio 1 track for recording and started up the capturing window. I heard the audio as the video played and was able to successfully capture both.
