Here’s one to chew over, Blackmagic support crew…

Final Cut on a G5 with the latest Decklink drivers and a Decklink Extreme SD.

I hate Apple’s waveform scopes for various reasons and came across another application ‘Video Scopes’, which is much better. It can monitor a selected file or a direct hardware input so, thinking I was being clever, I plugged the switched SDI output of my studio monitor into the SDI input of the Decklink card, effectively feeding the SDI output of the Decklink card back into itself.

The result: no output from FCP (general error) and no input into the video scopes application.

I tried it with the Y-Out and Y-In for the same result.

Am I being absurdly stupid? Should I be able to do this or is the Decklink card protecting itself from something? Or are two applications battling for control of the input?

A decklink can only be in recording or playback mode, not both.
So yes, you have a conflict, this is something that will never work.
