DeckLink Extreme HD – flicker on HD output – Mac OS X
I’ve been using a DeckLink Extreme HD in FCP Studio 2 for SD projects for over a year now. No problems other than a few crashes when using 10bit – nothing to worry about. Until now…
We’ve just invested in a Sony LMD-2050W boradcast LCD monitor, with a BKM-243HS SDI input adapter as part of a move toward HD production.
However, when outputting almost any type of HD from the DeckLink, I get a intermittent flickering signal. This intermittent signal carries through to the audio and is apparent all the time, (on stills, not just on moving images and not just when playing clips/the timeline). It is apparent regardless of the connection (SDI or component).
The card continues to output without problems in PAL and NTSC, and seems fine if I use 8bit codecs in FCP. However, this severely limits the codecs we can use (eliminating the use of ProRes, for example). Using ‘Extended Desktop’ is impossible in either 1080 or 720, while After Effects does not give the option of displaying 8bit, so it becomes unusable for HD work…
To begin with I thought this was a fault with the monitor, but I’ve connected it to our AJA ioHD (which only outputs 10bit) and there are no problems. The fact that the problem occurs in the audio too suggests a problem with the card.
I’ve tried contacting Blackmagic’s support, but have had no reply. I can’t find anything on the internet regarding this issue.
Does anyone have any tips? Does it sound like a fault with the card, or am I missing something?
