DeckLink Extreme – G5 – audio in FCP 4.5 only works sporadically
Have just installed a DeckLink Extreme in my G5, and when I play back video in Final Cut Pro, the audio only works occasionally, a bit like a loose connection (but I’ve gone demented already checking the connections, so I don’t think it’s that!). I also get dropped frames in the video. This does not happen when I change the setup in Easy Setup to not use the card.
Hardware: Apple G5 dual 1.8Ghz CPU, 1.25GB RAM, 2 ATA hard drives, one for apps, one for scratch disk. DataLink Extreme installed in top (133 MHz) slot of G5.
Software: OS X 10.3.9, Final Cut Pro HD 4.5
Of note: I installed the DeckLink Mac 4.8.1r2 software, but it warns against using OS X 10.3.9. If I upgrade to 10.4, do I need to also upgrade to FCP 5.0?

It could be the fact that your are on an unsupported combination of OS, FCP and BMD driver versions.
Look here for supported configurations: https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=89As that document explains there is no official support for FCP 4.5 in Tiger, so just upgrading your OS might not be desirable. The best option would probably be to go back to OS 10.3.8, or go all the way to 10.4 with FCP 5 and the newest decklink drivers.
Also, there were some compatibility issues with older DP 1.8s, but if your G5 has PCI-X architecture I don’t think that should be the problem (if I recall correctly the macs that had this problems were the PCI only models).
