[Gary Huff] “[Craig Seeman] “The whole point of this forum is to win the privilege of saying “I told you so.””

Yeah, unfortunately for me, they did end up releasing a new Mac Pro, dammit!

    LOL

[Gary Huff] “[Bill Davis] “And what you’re habituating yourself to is a constant output of dismissal or condemnation of anyone who speaks positively about X. It’s stilly and it’s a terrible personal brand, IMO.”

Apparently you haven’t been paying much attention to what I’ve been posting.

I second that. I don’t think that’s at all a fair appraisal of your postings.

[John Davidson] “Here’s a q – I have one suite that will be specifically for graphics creation and another that will be mostly editing in FCPX. Should I get a 6 core for editing and 12 core for graphics? Based on benchmarks that would get the best performance for each task, right?”

Is GFX AE? If so, do we have a sense of AE’s performance on those ATI cards?

[Craig Seeman] “While 4 and 6 core models say coming December in Apple Store, 8 and 12 core not listed at all. I can’t help but think they’d be up by now if pricing and availability were going to be this month. Even if the pricing goes online my gut says they won’t be immediately available for the end of year tax write off.

That’s what my gut says, too.

[Marcus Moore] “Considering my Apple guy was able to configure with those options last week AND give me prices; I don’t think that’s the case.

But we shall see soon enough.”

But was he able to give you a delivery date?
And is he still your Apple guy after breaking an NDA? 😉
So maybe they’ve locked down the price… but haven’t gotten those made yet or otherwise didn’t want the public to know details about the 8 and 12 core models… and doesn’t that seem “odd” without practical motivation?

I remember hearing that Adobe’s OpenGL performance has improved dramatically, making the no-CUDA card option less damning. But I cannot remember where I heard that.

[Marcus Moore] “I don’t get it.”

Hey, I’m with you. He’s got the personality of a Brillo pad. What can I say?

He said that IF they launched this week, I’d get a followup call about nailing down my order.

As for the info- I posted here and at FCP.co, and in a couple of tweets, plus Alex4Ds post; and it never took off in the rumour mills. My claims are unsubstantiated, so I guess it wasn’t solid enough for them to run with.

I hope my info isn’t bogus. Last thing I want is presenting false info.

[Chris Harlan] “True. Its also possible that 12 will have to be special ordered.”

Or maybe both 8 and 12.
If you look at the 6 core specs they already mention the FirePro 700 option so it may be a CPU shortage. just a wild guess since I’m not sure of availability on the Windows side. Other thing I could think of is that they come standard with 1TB PCIe SSD and the supply (and maybe the price) was in flux.
