I tried to open a project I’d been working on (closed fine yesterday) but before it opens I get a window titled Premiere Pro Debug Event. In the white field it says: Premiere Pro has encountered an error:
    [c:ringo64sharedadobemediacoremediafoundationapiincKeyframe/Keyfram
Yes, it ends on Keyfram. Probably because the window is too small for the rest to show and I can;t get it bigger.
Under that I can click on CONTINUE and when I do I get another window where it says: This project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements.

I work in PPro from CS5.5. I have just updated both Adobe and windows 7, but it didn’t help. Then I returned to a Restore Point 10 days ago, no help. Tried a lot of other things too…

Please help. I’d hate to have to go through the same work again.

    Thanks,
    Vasco

    Hi Vasco,

While we’re on Mac here with PPro we encountered a very odd error recently where Premiere wouldn’t open ANY projects under any circumstances. Are you able to open any other projects or does this happen with all projects.

In the end, we discovered that the issue was for that particular user account. I don’t know if this will translate to Windows but in this editor’s case, we had to create a new user account for her (deleted her old one) and everything went back to normal.

You can also try opening an auto-save version of the project if the above doesn’t apply. It’s a shot in the dark but maybe it will help…

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you, Petros, for your prompt reply.
I did try to open all available (5) auto-saves but they all exhibited the same problem. I have no problem with other projects. I can open old ones, current ones, new ones with the same settings. It is only this particular project with all its auto-saves that won;t open.

I also tried creating a new project and importing the problematic one… same thing. I tried using XML Wrench on the advise of a member of an Adobe forum. It didn’t detect any problems.

I believe, from the limited information the error window afforded, that a keyframe has gone astray, but I can’t pinpoint it or indeed get to it at all in order to eliminate it.

Please don’t give up on me.

    Best regards,
    Vasco

    No giving up! 🙂

If you can find a Mac, I recently read that the new update to Digital Rebellions Pro Maintenance Tools includes a CS Repair (Premiere Pro) utility to fix corrupt projects. I don’t know if it works (and am not a customer and/or sponsor) but if you need the project very badly, it might be worth the effort.

Having said that, if you don’t have access to a Mac I certainly don’t mind downloading the trial and seeing if it can fix the issue for you. I’m with family for the holidays right now and have the time to help, even if I don’t know a tried and true solution.

Project Repair is for repairing Premiere projects; CS Repair is for dealing with permissions and other miscellaneous issues that can cause Premiere Pro crashes.

    My software:
Pro Maintenance Tools – Tools to keep Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro running smoothly and fix problems when they arise
Pro Media Tools – Edit QuickTime chapters and metdata, detect gamma shifts, edit markers, watch renders and more
    More tools…

You might try moving all of the elements to a new folder on the same drive, then force Premiere to relink each element as it tries to reopen the project. If it still will not open there would be no need to save, and you would move everything back as this did not help.
On a windows system you might also run a scandisk. Possible a corrupt file that might be fixed.

    Thank you, one and all!
I will try all of the above and report either way.
All the best for the New Year!

PS I have no access to a Mac.

    Hi Vasco,

Well my offer is open if none of the Windows method works – I have PPro CS5.5.2/OS X 10.6.8 here with me. Send me a message through the Cow and I’ll be happy to try to help.

Happy New Year to you too!

I downloaded Pro Maintenance Tools but it only works on Mac. I am in Windows 7.

Thank you, Petros and Jon. What can I do to avail myself to the help you offer?

Is the project small enough to send by email? If so, you have my address. Remember to zip it before sending.
