  • Dealing with dark grainy footage

So I’ve got some dark HD footage that was shot with a Canon 7D that I’m stuck working with and I need to pull out the image. When I pull out the image using curves or brightness/contrast its got a lot of video noise etc.

Does anybody have any recommended filter techniques etc? I know there’s not that much you can really do but it’s a fairly common problem and I’d be interested in any advice.

    Thanks.

You can try noise removal tools like Remove grain [link] (built-in) or NeatVideo [link] (third-party).

These must be applied with a light hand — in general, it’s better to leave a little noise in than to try to remove it all, which gives you a very artificial waxy or plastic look.
