I just bought a Canon HF100, which is a pretty sweet little camera. Not professional by any means, but you can still get pretty nice images out of it.

I know Final Cut Studio 3.0 is going to come out any week now, so I really don’t want to upgrade my Final Cut Studio 1.0 to 2.0 and then pay $500 again a week later for 3.0. So I want to use Final Cut Pro 5.0 with my files while I wait for the next version.

I dug up a $35 program called iSkySoft Video Converter, which is able to convert my AVCHD video to all kinds of formats. The program produces surprisingly good video in the MPEG-4 H.264 format and the file size is not bad – way better than if I used iMovie to do the conversion.

There is only one problem: Final Cut Pro requires rendering before it can display the video on the timeline. So every time I drag a clip to the timeline, literally minutes of rendering are required.

Do you know what formats Final Cut Pro can work with and how to get them with iSkySoft Video Converter or a similar program?

    Thanks for any ideas!

That is because the format you are converting the video to is NOT a editing codec it is a delivery codec. HD editing formats, include ProRess, DVCProHD, HDV, and App,e Intermediate Codec.

Convert your video to one of those and you will be fine.
